Found typed on a card in an old st. augustine’s prayer book in the sacristy at holy cross…

God forgives you with the generosity of his nature, but your back is turned to him. You have been told that he forgives you, but you will not turn and have the forgiveness, even though you feel the eyes of his compassion on your back. God forgives you, for he takes your head between his hands and turns your face to his to make you smile at him. And though you struggle and hurt those hands – for they are human-divine, hands scarred by nails – though you hurt them, they do not let you go until he has smiled you into smiling. And that is the forgiveness of God.

Thank you, God, for turning my frown upside down. :)
